There once were soldiers…:

There must be a fantastic story behind this old, abandonded army vehicle. It’s way out nowhere in Bethel on the lonely road out towards Hangar Lake.
This is my first HDR photograph with the aid of Photomatix. I’ve scouted out locations for trying HDR over the winter, and with the EOS 50D, can start experimenting. Already discovered I ideally need more frames for greater range to avoid graininess (http://jefflynchdev.wordpress.com/2009/01/15/canon-50d-auto-exposure-bracketing/).
This was a 3-shot blend at +/- 1 stop.

On the road to nowhere…:

Another HDR shot of this fantastic old abandoned army truck. I think my goal for tomorrow is to bug some people that have been here a few years longer than I have until I find out where it came from!

Laughter and nightmares…:

There’s pretty much always kids running around outside houses up here, I imagine this was no different. Was eerie, could almost hear their laughter. I can only hope everyone made it out safely when this place burned down. A house fire is my biggest worry, especially when I was living out the bush.

What does this lever do…:

Plenty of levers and dials to confuse the uninitiated. I do believe there’s guys around town that will get this up and running once in a while for the odd job or two.

Sponsored by…:

A multitude of stickers on the framework and lifting arm of one of the many seemingly abandonded pieces of machinery out here.
This is probably fired up once every few years for some mundane task and then returned to it’s resting place.

Abandonded pipes:

Probably left one winter years ago, these are now all rusted and the insulation ruined as the spring time submerges them in water around the back of the water treatment plant.

Pinky’s Park softball:

Local teams play in a fairly informal league four nights a week during the short summer, but everyone seems to have fun!
